Israel puts many Democrats between a rock and a hard place

Originally published February 20, 2020

As the 2020 Democratic Primary begins to take shape, many Democrats are deathly afraid to “feel the Bern.” The top of this list includes the Democratic Majority 4 Israel (DMFI), which was formed specifically to combat the growing anti-Israel streak among Democrats. Now they are in open warfare with other left-wing groups, and must choose between being pro-Israel or defeating Trump.

DMFI was founded in 2019 as a counterbalance to the shifting tides in the Democratic Party that sought to distance the political left from Israel. While the catalyst for their formation was the coronation of Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) as the Democrats’ ideological thought leaders regarding Israel, they have also fought Trump’s agenda tooth and nail. They have found a happy middle where they can maintain their support for Israel while attacking Trump, because that is what many Democrats do, as support for Israel has mostly been a bipartisan issue.

However, those days are numbered. Sen. Bernie Sanders is more anti-Israel than presidents Barack Obama and Jimmy Carter combined. Sanders has openly and on multiple occasions called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a racist. Sanders has promised the radically left anti-Israel group IfNotNow that he will end “the occupation” of Palestine (a fictional occupation of a fictional country).

Sanders has said on stage at the J Street policy conference that he would condition Israeli military aid on Israeli policy vis-à-vis the Palestinians, adding that “some of the $3.8 billion [in aid] should go right now to humanitarian aid in Gaza.” Sanders left out the part where Gaza is run by Hamas, which uses “humanitarian” aid to fund terrorist activities. Sanders is endorsed by the very people who DMFI opposes: Omar and Tlaib.

Last week, the left-wing site The Intercept reported “AIPAC Is Helping Fund Anti-Bernie Sanders Super Pac Ads In Nevada.” AIPAC, which works so hard on remaining bipartisan that they actually apologized for calling out radical Democrats, denies the affiliation. The Nevada ads were actually run by DMFI, who ran similar ads in Iowa and have spent $1.4 million so far trying to ensure that Sanders isn’t the nominee.

J Street president Jeremy Ben-Ami, who was most recently seen kissing terrorist financier and Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas at the United Nations, issued a statement about the ad campaign. Demanding that the ads be removed, Ben-Ami defends Sanders and puts the focus on Trump, claiming that DMFI “has no right to claim to speak for a ‘Democratic majority’ of pro-Israel Americans,” and that ads against Sanders are “distracting from the absolute necessity of defeating Donald Trump.”

DMFI responded to Ben-Ami’s statement by saying that J Street is “protecting Senator Sanders” and that they “have problems with Senator Sanders’s views on Israel and his refusal to disassociate himself from antisemitic statements made by individuals he appointed to official positions in his campaign.” They also claim that Trump must be defeated, that “Senator Sanders will not be able to defeat Trump, and his nomination would put Democratic candidates at risk up and down the ballot and across the country.”

While they stand so starkly contrasted to Trump, it is unclear exactly where center-left Democrats like DMFI stand on foreign policy regarding Israel.

Do they disapprove of Trump being the first sitting president to visit the Western Wall, the appointment of Nikki Haley to the United Nations, the moving of the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, the recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, or Trumps “Peace and Prosperity” proposal? While they happily stand against Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, are they also going to stand against Benny Gantz, Netanyahu’s political rival, who shares many of the same policy views as Netanyahu regarding the Palestinians?

A Sanders’s nomination will put many Democrats to the test, but none more so than those that claim to be pro-Israel. Will they choose to side with their party, even when their party takes a radical approach to the Jewish state, or with their philosophy, which they have spent decades cultivating? If they choose the latter, there will be plenty on the left that will attack and deride them for it, and if they choose the former, they will lose all credibility as a pro-Israel organization.

United Nations Targets Israel… Again

Originally published February 19, 2020

In fiction, there is no more “wretched hive of scum and villainy” than the Mos Eisley spaceport. In reality, that title is conferred on the United Nations, which once again singled out the Jewish state for economic annihilation. Their latest salvo came in the form of a blacklist of 112 companies that do business out of Judea and Samaria, for the sole purpose of boycotting those companies.
This list is the result of over three years of diligent work by the absurdly named UN Human Rights Council, which stated in a March 2016 resolution that it would “produce a database of all business enterprises” in the “Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem.” This resolution defined “Occupied Palestinian Territory” as anything past pre-1967 borders.
Essentially, according to this UN Human Rights Council Resolution, the Six-Day War never happened, the First Intifada never happened, the Oslo Accords never happened, the Second Intifada never happened, offerings of peace in 2000 and 2008 never happened. There is only pre-1967 and now, and Israel is the “occupying Power.”

Human Rights Watch, which is so biased against Israel that it doesn’t even list “Israel” as a country on its website, opting for the fictional “Israel/Palestine” (Palestine not being a country at all), celebrated the announcement of the list. “The long-awaited release of the UN settlement business database should put all companies on notice: To do business with illegal settlements is to aid in the commission of war crimes,” said Bruno Stagno Ugarte, HRW’s deputy executive director for advocacy. The illegality of the settlements is long disputed by the Israeli government, and President Trump recently joined them in that dispute.
The United Nations, and the BDS movement writ large, are so blinded by their hatred for the Jewish People and the Jewish state that they are willing to destroy Palestinian lives if it gives them the opportunity to dent Israel. Since the Palestinian people are being governed by what is tantamount to a terrorist regime, the Palestinian Authority, there are not many companies that are willing to operate there. Israel, being the freest and most prosperous country in the region, provides a welcome home to these businesses. These businesses, in turn, employ Palestinians.
Palestinian Media Watch, a non-profit group that studies Palestinian culture, reported that “Palestinians prefer to work for Israeli employers.” Israelis pay more; they provide better benefits and safer working conditions. There are countless testimonials from Palestinians, who try as often as they can to work for Israeli companies. The UN and the BDS movement jeopardize Palestinian livelihoods with this list.
The list included multiple American and European companies that could receive blowback from the anti-Semitic BDS movement. American companies such as Motorola, Trip Advisor, Airbnb, and General Mills are on the list. These companies have locations throughout the United States, as well; and a boycott will adversely affect their domestic production.
This is something that Representative Ilhan Omar should keep in mind as she continues to promote the BDS movement (despite her opposition on sanctions against every country in the world not named “Israel”). Omar has a General Mills factory in her district. Will her constituents be happy with the fact that she is promoting a cause that could put them out of work?
Motorola’s main office in the United States is located in Chicago, in the Congressional District of Danny K. Davis, who voted “present” on the anti-BDS resolution that passed the House of Representatives 398-17, and is a co-sponsor on Ilhan Omar’s pro-BDS resolution that compares Israel to Nazi Germany and Apartheid South Africa. Trip Advisor is located in Massachusetts, in a district close to Ayanna Pressley, who voted against the anti-BDS resolution. Airbnb is in San Francisco, in Nancy Pelosi’s district. Pelosi, who calls BDS anti-Semitic when standing in front of a crowd at AIPAC, refuses to condemn it when it’s being pushed by members of her own Caucus.
The BDS movement has little to no effect on Israel itself, but it consistently harms innocent bystanders. Palestinians are losing job opportunities that are desperately needed. College students are berated and attacked by BDS fanatics. The United Nations puts US companies at risk.
The United Nations views the partition plan of 1947, which led to the creation of the State of Israel, as their “original sin.” They had a momentary lapse of judgment after the Holocaust and were nice to the Jews. They have been trying to buy back that sin ever since. This list is the latest attempt at that. Like so many attempts before, they will not be successful. The only question that remains is how many innocent people will suffer along the way.

HILL: Senate Democrats’ Response To Trump’s Peace Plan Is Historically Ignorant

Originally published January 30, 2020

After the unveiling of President Donald Trump’s proposed peace plan in the Middle East, numerous Senate Democrats took time out of their busy schedule to lecture him about Middle East politics. The letter they wrote is historically ignorant and dangerous, which is compounded by the fact that it was signed by three leading current presidential candidates; Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN).
“Dear President Trump,” the letter begins, “We write to express our profound concern regarding your decision to release a one-sided Israeli-Palestinian plan forged without any Palestinian involvement or support.”
Right off the bat, Senate Democrats ignore the fact that the Palestinians have been invited to the negotiations on numerous occasions. The most prominent one was June 2019, when there was a U.S.-led peace conference in Bahrain that was boycotted by the Palestinians. They thought that a boycott would stop the conference, but Jared Kushner, the point-man for the Trump administration in this process, pushed forward.
Trump’s peace plan would ultimately give the Palestinians a state, as well as funds to help get that state up and running. The 1947 U.N. partition plan, which the Arab world outright rejected in choosing instead to declare all-out war on the nascent Jewish state, did not include $50 billion. In fact, the world mostly stood by and watched while the Jewish state was attacked from every direction.
Senate Democrats’ letter espouses significant falsehoods, claiming that this plan “paves the way for full or partial Israeli annexation of the West Bank.” But there has never been much support for a call to fully annex Judea and Samaria, as that would include giving citizenship to millions of Palestinian-Arabs — many of whom call for the destruction of the state of Israel.
Senate Democrats also, un-ironically, claim that this plan “undermine[s] existing U.S. policy regarding the unilateral annexation of Crimea, eastern Ukraine.” In case the Democrats forgot, Russia invaded Crimea when the Obama administration withheld crucial military aid to the Ukranians. That was not a defensive war; it was an attack by Russia. Comparing that act with Israel winning territory in the 1967 Six-Day War, which was a defensive war, is patently insane. Additionally, Russia immediately annexed Crimea, whereas Israel limited its annexation to the city of Jerusalem — the eternal capital of the Jewish nation. Contrast that to 1948, when Jordan took over that same territory, annexed it, and left the Palestinian people in refugee camps to linger and suffer until Israel militarily defeated Jordan in 1967’s defensive conflict.
Senate Democrats also conveniently ignore the last 73 years of history when they claim that “this proposal violates the Palestinians’ right to self-determination.” The Palestinians could have asserted their right to self-determination any time from 1947 through today. They can declare a state and nobody will mind. In fact, many Israelis would welcome it. In 2000, then-Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak offered to Yasser Arafat the Gaza Strip, 95% of the West Bank, 5% of Israel, half of Jerusalem (including the Temple Mount), and Israeli citizenship for 50,000 Palestinians. Arafat walked away without a counteroffer and instead launched the Second Intifada. Democrats ignore that the Palestinians could have exercised their “right to self-determination.” Instead, they are choosing to stay as they are.
The Democrats complain about the proposed borders, referring to it as a “disconnected series of Palestinian islets.” They claim that this “would betray the vision of a sovereign Palestinian state.” Again, Palestinians could have had a say in this process. They chose not to. Additionally, the only “vision” that the Palestinians have of a Palestinian state is one that encompasses all of Israel and does not include any Jews.
The Democrats then have the audacity to accuse President Trump of interfering in the upcoming Israeli election, claiming that the timing “raises disturbing questions about [Trump’s] intention to intervene in the Israeli election process.” This accusation is audacious for multiple reasons. First, the Democratic Party at-large is currently in the middle of an impeachment of President Trump that Democrats themselves claim is intended to prevent him from winning re-election. Second, this is the third Israeli election in the last year, so this wouldn’t affect much of anything. Third, Benny Gantz, Netanyahu’s chief political rival, endorsed this plan and is bringing it up for a parliamentary vote. Finally, it is ironic that Senate Democrats are accusing Trump of interfering with Israeli elections when Obama did that in 2015 — and nobody cared.
Democrats continue their letter with their old and tiresome “President Trump isn’t a normal president” routine. “Your administration has already reversed decades of bipartisan U.S. policy on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,” it reads. “Previous presidents of both parties successfully maintained the respect of both Israelis and Palestinians for the United States’ role as a credible player in difficult negotiations.” But policies that haven’t worked for 50 years should be changed. Democrats think that if they try the same thing over and over — that “thing” being caving to terrorists — there will be different results. That is the definition of insanity. Trump’s only change from the standard “two-state solution” is that it recognizes the fact that Israel is the only actor that actually wants peace.
The Democrats are making the same mistakes with the Palestinians that they did with the Iranians: The assumption that everyone wants the same thing. They do not. Palestinian leadership wants to destroy Israel. Democrats either don’t know that, or simply don’t care.

OIC is looking to give the Orthodox community a voice

Originally published January 23, 2020

The elections for the American delegation to the World Zionist Congress are underway, and unlike a normal election, voters have over a month to make their choice. One of the major delegations from the 2015 election was the Orthodox slate, under the name of Vote Torah. They have emerged in the 2020 election as the Orthodox Israel Coalition, or OIC.

OIC has a strong affiliation with many of the premiere Orthodox and Modern Orthodox Zionist groups around the world. Mizrachi, AMIT, the Orthodox Union (OU), the RCA, Yeshiva University, Touro and the National Council of Young Israel are all partnered with OIC. This goes back to 1902, when Mizrachi led the way in bringing the Orthodox community into a Jewish parliamentary system headed by a non-affiliated Jew, Theodor Herzl.

“Most religious Jews didn’t know how to stomach a secular Jew leading the charge for a Jewish state,” says Rabbi Doron Perez, the chief executive of the Mizrachi World Movement.  The Mizrachi Movement was mobilized by a group of religious Jews who felt that it was imperative to partner with all Jews for this cause.

One of the ways that OIC is hoping to keep that Jewish tradition alive is through increasing the funding for the Masa subsidy program. Masa provides scholarship to people between the ages of 18 and 30 for a variety of reasons, including the gap-year study post-high school that many Orthodox American students partake in.

“The engine of success of the religious Zionist world in America is that 3,000 kids a year come to [spend] the gap year in Israel,” says Doron. “This wasn’t the case 40 to 50 years ago.” The importance of the gap year cannot be overstated, as the students that return from Israel are thrust immediately to the front lines of America’s increasingly anti-Israel and anti-Semitic American college campuses.

However, even though the number of students has increased, the subsidized funding for Masa has decreased. Between 2011 and 2019, funding plummeted from $1,000 per recipient to $200. This is a direct result of the World Zionist Congress elections. OIC isn’t the only religious slate. The Conservative Mercaz and Reform ARZA slates together yielded over half of the American delegation in 2015. They have no interest in subsidizing scholarship programs for Orthodox students, so the funding has decreased.

“We lost funding because of low voter turnout,” says Rabbi Doron. “If people galvanize they will have a direct effect [on funding]. It’s the future engine of the Zionist movement.”

The reform and conservative movements in America have a great interest in this election. Since they, unlike the Orthodox and ultra-Orthodox, don’t have Knesset counterparts, this vote is their primary vehicle via which to effect change in Israel. This includes how conversions and marriages are conducted and how much prayer space there is at the Western Wall, all of which they want to reflect the Reform laws, not the Orthodox ones. They also have adopted the left’s political ideology regarding Judea and Samaria, and this is where a right-wing WZC can make the most impact.

The governing boards of major organizations in Israel are decided based on this election. This includes 100 percent of the World Zionist Organization (WZO) and Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael—Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF). KKL-JNF owns 80 percent of the land north of Beersheva, and is responsible for cultivating it. The left, both religiously and politically, do not want land over the Green Line, in Judea and Samaria, to be cultivated or developed. The right, which recognizes the Jewish historical and religious connection to that land, does. The future of those funds and how those boards operate are dependent on this election.

Rabbi Doron is predicting high voter turnout.

“There is huge interest in this election this time around,” he says. “In 2015 there was a lot of apathy, around 56,000 of all Jews in America above 18 voted.”

He’s not wrong, as there were 9,000 ballots cast already on the first day of voting in this election, a 500 percent increase. Doron views the increased interest and turnout as a positive.

“What’s very unusual and unique is that there are very few places that Reform and Orthodox sit together and work together for the future of the Jewish people,” he says.

So while there may be differences among the groups, the fact that the Jewish people are increasing, not decreasing, their interest in the Land of Israel is beneficial.

Yet it is critical for the Orthodox community in America to mobilize, and to vote. With the rise of anti-Semitism in America, coming from all angles including white supremacists, extreme-left-wing members of Congress, college BDS movements and African-American teenagers, the need for a unified Jewish people and a strong Jewish state is as important as ever.

The World Zionist Congress holds the checkbook to a number of crucial causes for the future of Judaism, and the voting is underway. As Rabbi Doron says, “It’s the most important election you’ve never heard of.”

WZC will decide how Jews see themselves

Originally published January 23, 2020

Voting has begun for the 38th World Zionist Congress, and the election is already shaping up into the familiar left-right dynamic witnessed in countless elections worldwide. Much has changed for American Jews since the 2015 election, however, as the threats to the pro-Israel community have grown exponentially, and will continue to grow if left unchecked.  Sadly, this threat comes from other American Jews.

Groups like Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow have grown since 2015, primarily on American college campuses and in the political scene. Jewish Voice for Peace attempts to influence Jews and non-Jews on campuses by lying about Israeli policy and Jewish history. They have begun a “Return the Birthright” campaign that essentially calls for an end to Israel by giving all the land to Palestinians.

IfNotNow pushes the same ideology on presidential candidates; so far, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) are on board. Former Vice President Joe Biden, while not as anti-Israel as the other two, has acquiesced to the notion that Israel is “occupying” Judea and Samaria. Similarly, leftist groups like J Street and T’ruah are gathering their supporters to gain more delegates in this year’s WZC as part of the Hatikvah Slate. These groups want to destroy the very nature of the Jewish state, transforming it into another Arab state in the Middle East in everything but name.

Combating this ideology, specifically regarding how Jews around the world view Israel, is where the Zionist Organization of America comes in.

The ZOA has been a staple in the WZC since the beginning, in 1897, and has not slowed down since. ZOA introduced multiple resolutions at the World Zionist Congress in October 2019 aimed at combating the stranglehold the left has taken on the Jewish community. These includes a resolution against Palestinian Authority payments to the families of terrorists who murder Jews, anti-BDS resolutions, resolution promoting Israeli sovereignty in the Jordan Valley, and the condemnation of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.

The anti-BDS resolution included an important clause excluding any group that promotes BDS from the WZC. Not only does this keep groups like IfNotNow and Jewish Voice for Peace out, it also forces other groups that agree with BDS to publicly denounce them if they want to participate.

Perhaps the most important ZOA resolution that passed was that all WZC entities will “use the names ‘Judea and Samaria’ in their statements, publications and maps, rather than the name ‘West Bank.’ ” This matters because language matters, and the left around the world is taking advantage of politeness and political correctness to change history and meaning. If the WZC uses the term “West Bank,” they have already ceded the argument to those that believe that the Jewish people have no historical and religious connection to Judea and Samaria.

ZOA, like every other political body, have had their share of losses. While they were successful at keeping out groups that support BDS, they were unsuccessful at an American registration rule requiring that all delegates and candidates were anti-BDS as well. Which means that even though the left-wing T’ruah must denounce BDS on their website, their leader Rabbi Jill Jacobs will defend it vociferously in both op-eds and on social media.

The consequence of prominent left-wing voices in the WZC is a spread of anti-Israel propaganda around the world. One such example is a film program, controlled by the Reform Movement, that includes praise for Machsom Watch. Machsom Watch is an NGO that watches Israeli checkpoints to verbally and physically harass Israeli soldiers for ensuring the safety of the people of Israel. Machsom Watch, like many other leftist organizations, operates in a world with no context (the checkpoints were erected after a wave of terrorist attacks) and no comparisons (the Israeli checkpoints are up to seven times faster to get through than U.S.-Mexico border crossings). This is the group that is praised in educational videos with funds paid by the World Zionist Organization.

The anti-Israel left within the WZC is not a fringe group. The left has continually classified Israel as a racist and apartheid state, despite the fact that it is the only place int he Middle East where every religion and race can live freely, and even has Arab Knesset members. Sanders has repeatedly called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a racist. In October 2019, the left pushed for a resolution that labeled Israeli society as being full of “institutional racism.” That measure was defeated by one vote.

While pro-Israel Jewry may have dodged a bullet by avoiding that resolution, they should heed the warning. The partisan divides are not limited to the United States, they are universal. It is incumbent on every American Jew who wants a voice in the future of the State of Israel to vote for the American Delegation in the World Zionist Congress immediately.

The opinions here reflect those of the author and the slate, and not of JNS.

Note: An earlier version of this article stated that Machsom Watch was praised in a WZO video. This was corrected to say that the group was praised in the teaching materials that accompanied the video.

‘New Way Forward’ Act Is Insane – And It’s Being Pushed By OUR Representatives

Originally published February 12, 2020

If you live in Queens, your Representative in Congress is likely a co-sponsor of the New Way Forward Act, a piece of legislation so insane it defies logic. This legislation would seek to radically transform immigration in this country, essentially removing all borders and restrictions going forth.
This bill is co-sponsored by 44 Democrats since its introduction in December 2019, including Representatives Greg Meeks (NY-5), Grace Meng (NY-6), and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14). Meng’s district includes (but is not limited to) the neighborhoods of Flushing, Forest Hills, Fresh Meadows, and Kew Gardens. Meeks represents Jamaica and Far Rockaway.
The extreme nature of this bill cannot be understated. The premise is that America is not a sovereign nation with the right to have borders. If you think this is an exaggeration, it’s not. Currently, illegal aliens who are caught crossing the border or subject to deportation are placed in detention facilities. This bill eliminates detention facilities. Currently, if an alien is released on a bond, the minimum that can be set is $1,500. This bill says that a bond cannot impose a “financial hardship,” so essentially there is no bond (New Yorkers are well aware of how poor that decision is). If you’re under 18 and unaccompanied, you are not detained at all; rather, you are transferred to Health and Human Services for placement. This bill would allow any person in the world who is under 18 to legally move to the United States, no questions asked.
Keep in mind that many deportations are ordered when an illegal alien commits a crime in this country. This bill gets rid of that. “The fact that an alien has a prior conviction or a criminal charge pending against the alien may not be the sole factor to justify the continued detention of the alien,” the bill says. That’s because there is a “presumption of release.” Everyone who appears in an immigration court is presumed to be released into the country, unless there is “clear and convincing evidence” to the contrary, which is the second-highest standard in the United States judicial system (a higher standard than most cases brought before civil court or family court).
That standard is even higher if you are a “vulnerable person.” A “vulnerable person” is defined as anyone who is under 21, over 60, pregnant, identifies as LGBTQ, a victim or witness of any crime, has filed a claim in federal or state court, has a fear of persecution, doesn’t understand English, or is determined to be a survivor of gender-based violence. There are no illegal aliens who could not figure out a way to become a “vulnerable person.”
What about if an illegal alien commits a major crime in this country? Under this Act, if an illegal alien commits a “crime of moral turpitude,” like child molestation, voluntary manslaughter, or rape, this does not trigger an automatic deportation. The same is true for “aggravated felony.” Illegal aliens in this country cannot be deported from this country if they commit any crime that receives a sentence of less than five years, and even that can be overridden by an immigration judge. Each inmate in prison costs the taxpayer a national average of $31,000 per year. New York City mismanages its jails so badly that it costs the taxpayers over $300,000 per inmate, and this Act will not allow New York to deport its illegal criminals (which they don’t want to do anyway).
This bill encourages illegal entry to the United States by repealing the statute that makes it a crime to illegally cross the border. This shouldn’t be a surprise, as nearly every Democrat presidential candidate has endorsed the repeal of the same law, but they have mentioned replacing it with a fine. This Act wouldn’t even have a fine for illegal border crossing. Last June, a child drowned while crossing the Rio Grande with her father. This Act encourages that action, because once they get to the American side of the river, they can stay forever.
None of this is the craziest part of the bill. This Act invents a new Right, the “Right to Come Home.” According to this Act, if an illegal alien has been deported anytime in the last 24 years for any reason that has been legal until this Act became law, he or she can come back into the United States. That means if a child predator was deported, he’s invited back. If a rapist was deported, he’s invited back. If someone who committed assault, robbery, drug trafficking, weapons trafficking, or human trafficking was deported, he’s invited back. He is not only invited, “The Secretary of Homeland Security shall provide transportation for aliens eligible for reopening or reconsideration of their proceedings under this section, at Government expense, to return to the United States for further immigration proceedings and shall admit or parole the alien into the United States.” Taxpayers have had to pay for the travel expenses of every single deported alien since 1996.
Grace Meng co-sponsored this Act. Greg Meeks co-sponsored this Act. Forty-two other Democrats co-sponsored this act. This Act is immoral, it is irrational, and it is despicable. America has laws, borders, and sovereignty, as every country does. This Act destroys that. The lunatics of the Democratic Party have taken over the asylum, and if they win in November, this nightmare could become a reality.

Candidates React To Dems’ SOTU Behavior

Originally published February 12, 2020

Last week, President Trump delivered his annual State of the Union (SOTU) address. As in previous years, acute onset Trump Derangement Syndrome fell upon members of the Democratic Caucus, who remained firmly in their seats throughout most of the speech. New York voters who witnessed the galling behavior of their Representatives have the opportunity to have their voices of disgust heard at the ballot box this November, when all Members of the House are up for re-election.
Much of the reaction to President Trump’s third State of the Union address was the same as his second. “However, there are some things that every American should cheer, but Democrats won’t,” last year’s SOTU article in the Queens Jewish Link said. “Record black unemployment? No cheers. Record Hispanic unemployment? No applause. Record Americans with disabilities unemployment? No claps. The Republicans in the room probably needed to make a group chiropractor appointment with all the standing ovations over these pronouncements.” This year, the Democrats went even further. Some moments, like Trump’s pronouncement that seven million people have been pulled off Food Stamps during his tenure, received audible boos from the Democrats. No one, however, could top Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
After extending an unshaken hand to Trump (which video evidence shows that Trump didn’t see, and he didn’t shake Vice President Mike Pence’s hand either), Pelosi opened the event by refusing to say the traditional honorific introduction to Trump, ending up merely saying, “Ladies and gentlemen, the President of the United States.” She then proceeded to spend her considerable amount of screen time (she is seen every time Trump is) rifling through her copy of the speech as if she were on the E Train and a homeless man was begging for money, doing her best to ignore him. She was mumbling to herself, playing with her gums, and was generally rude and childish. Then came the coup de grâce. Trump finishes his speech, and as everyone rises to leave, she rips her copy of the speech in half.

This was no spur-of-the-moment action. The New York Post discovered through looking at different camera angles that Pelosi pre-ripped the speech in the beginning of the address, before she read it or heard it. She was testing how many pages she could rip at a time, which is why she knew later to rip it in sections. If the Democrats’ argument for campaigning against Trump was that they were the adults in the room, Pelosi literally shredded that argument.
Queens and the surrounding areas are all Democrat strongholds, but there is a growing movement of Republicans who are fed up with the antics and policies of their current Representatives. One of the largest districts in the area is the 3rd Congressional District, which covers parts of Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Its current Representative is Tom Suozzi, with George Santos running on the Republican ticket.
Santos was appalled at the behavior of the Democrats. “Speaker Pelosi and Thomas Suozzi sat in opposition for the majority of the President’s address,” he said in a statement. “Democrats are angry because America is winning under the leadership of President Trump. Suozzi cares more about politics than prosperity. That’s why Suozzi supports Impeachment, AOC’s “Green New Deal,” and single-payer healthcare. The NY-3 deserves better.”
Tom Zmich, who is running in the Republican Primary in District 6 against Grace Meng, focused on Trump’s record. “President Trump has led by example,” he said, “with the economy at an all-time high, our national security and military being supported at the highest level ever. His SOTU address highlighted his continuing desire to improve the Quality of Life for all Americans.”
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who decided to skip the State of the Union address altogether, has a bevy of challengers in District 14. At present, there are eight declared Republican challengers to her seat, who will have to battle it out in June’s primary, and many of them took their reactions to social media. John Cummings tweeted, “As a high school civics teacher, what Nancy Pelosi did last night shocked me. Her disrespect for the office of the Presidency, driven by partisan hatred for President Trump, is a new low in American politics.” Scherie Murray continued in the same vein: “Nancy Pelosi huffed & puffed throughout entire #SOTU. Fidgeting! Her behavior behind #POTUS speech was childish & classless. She then rips up speech (which had names of our fallen). It wasn’t courteous! @speakerpelosi your behavior doesn’t rise to level of speaker of the House.”
Antoine Tucker had some words to say about the Democrats writ large. “I watched as most of the [black] Congressmen [and] Women Dems sat didn’t stand of clap [for] [President Trump] when he exposed that he’s done more for [black] America then any of the [people] that sat on their butts.”
The Democrats’ behavior transcended normal partisan politics. Like the impeachment that ended with the acquittal of President Trump, this was vindictive and fueled by hate. Instead of simply acknowledging some good things that have occurred, or commending the heroes and heroines whom Trump honored that night, they chose to use the State of the Union address as a platform to increase the divisiveness and polarization of the country. If Trump wins re-election, and they retain the House in 2020, next year will be a repeat of the same.

Dems Campaign To Run Country But Can’t Run Their Own Election

Originally published February 5, 2020

The Democratic Party fell flat on their faces the moment they stepped into the 2020 election cycle. The Iowa caucuses occurred this week, and the app that they created to tally results completely failed on them. What should scare Americans is that this is the party that every nominee wants to completely control your healthcare.
Prior to the caucus, the official DNC twitter wrote: “For three years, we’ve been preparing for the process that officially kicks off tonight in Iowa: the Democratic presidential primary.” Yet when the moment came to tally the results, the system, and the backup, failed completely. Meanwhile, Republican caucus results were being tallied. While it was merely a formality, with President Trump winning over 97% of the votes, it was a solid indication of party competence on a governmental level.
The candidates, with no results, began to give victory speeches to their supporters as the clock neared midnight. They say there’s no more dangerous place than between a politician and a camera, and once each candidate heard that the other was claiming victory (again, with no results) they fell over each other to get the airtime. The cable news networks, who had to vamp for four hours, as there was no news to report, suddenly found themselves cutting from one speech to another.
“Tonight was a great night for us,” tweeted Joe Biden campaign manager Greg Schultz. “We are thrilled with our performance across the state.” Meanwhile, Elizabeth Warren’s chief campaign strategist, Joe Rospars, claimed that it was a close three-way race between Warren, Bernie Sanders, and Pete Buttigieg, and that Biden was a distant fourth. One minute later he tweeted, “Any campaign saying they won or putting out incomplete numbers is contributing to the chaos and misinformation.” Perhaps the most accurate comment came from Pete Buttigieg as he declared triumph. “Iowa,” he said, “you have shocked the nation.” He was right, but for the wrong reasons.
After the app failed to tally results, the Iowa Democrat Party (IDP) went to the backup system, calling the results in by phone. With hold times of over an hour, the process was so chaotic that the Democrats basically gave up and said they would release the results at a later time. In one amusing moment, CNN’s Wolf Blitzer was interviewing a precinct secretary who was waiting on hold to report the result. On air, a Democrat official finally answered the phone, and in the ten seconds that it took for the precinct secretary to tell Blitzer that he would report the results, the official hung up the call.

The app at the center of this whole issue was built by a firm called Shadow Inc. The Wall Street Journal reports that the IDP paid more than $63,000 for this app. Prior to caucus night, the IDP did not publicly reveal the app maker or allow it to be tested properly, according to cyber-security experts. The IDP also declined outreach from the Department of Homeland Security to securely test the app. This is an ironic decision coming from the party that has not stopped beating the drum of protecting the integrity of the election process.
This may not be the last time this problem occurs. Apparently, the Nevada State Democratic Party also hired Shadow to develop an app for its caucus, which occurs later this month. They shelled out $58,000.
From the results that were available based on cable news coverage and social media, it seemed like Bernie Sanders was having a big night. Sanders, who refers to himself as a “democratic socialist” but was recently called a “communist” by President Trump, has consistently called for the complete government takeover of multiple industries for the past 40 years. However, the failure of this app reminds many voters of the failure of the Obamacare website, which cost $2 billion to the taxpayer and failed upon launch.
It’s not only Sanders; nearly every Democrat candidate wants more government control over every aspect of American life. At this point, a question should be asked to the candidates, especially those on the extreme left like Sanders and Warren, if there is anything they believe that the private sector can do better than the government. While most Americans don’t believe that government bureaucracy is the way they want to live their lives, those running for President think that it is the only way to progress.
If the Iowa Caucus is any indication, the Democrats just don’t know how to effectively run a program on a large scale. Anyone who has been to the DMV can tell you that. Don’t expect these candidates to change their tune at this stage of the game, though. They are too entrenched in their messages to adjust them now. And while the Democratic Party expected February 3 to be the kickoff of their attempt to kick Trump out of the Oval office, it turned out to be one big campaign commercial for the incumbent President.

Nobody Should Take Trump’s Impeachment Seriously

Originally published January 29, 2020

Anyone who tells you that Hunter Biden’s involvement in the Ukrainian natural gas company is a “debunked right-wing conspiracy theory” is lying to you.
Last week, the trial of President Donald J. Trump began, and it was a ridiculous waste of time. However, it is a “historic” moment – as Trump is only the third President to have an impeachment trial in American history, Americans deserve to know what is going on. One of the most frustrating aspects of this farce is the notion that Hunter Biden, the epicenter of the entire Ukrainian scandal, is considered an irrelevant part of this investigation. Adam Schiff, who takes the term “partisan hack” to disturbingly new heights, said that calling Hunter Biden to testify would be an “illegitimate abuse of the trial.” This is a lie.
To debunk the narrative that the Hunter Biden aspect is debunked, it’s important to go through the timeline. Fortunately, Texas Senator Ted Cruz has debuted a new podcast this week alongside the Daily Wire’s Michael Knowles, called “The Verdict” – and the American people are tuning in. In only a few days since its inception, it shot to the number one podcast in iTunes, which is no small feat. During one episode, Senator Cruz, who may be one of the best constitutional lawyers in the country, laid out the legitimacy of the investigations that President Trump was asking for.

Burisma was co-founded in 2002 by Mykola Zlochevsky, a Ukrainian oligarch. In 2010, Zlochevsky became Ukraine’s Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, which meant that he could grant the country’s natural gas licenses to his own company and then get to reap the profits.
In 2014, this obvious corruption caught the attention of the United States, and Joe Biden said he would be the point person for the Obama administration regarding all things Ukraine. After Russia invaded Crimea, Biden traveled to Ukraine and held a joint press conference with the Ukrainian Prime Minister, Arseniy Yatsenyuk. Ukraine knew that Biden was their guy.
In April 2014, Devon Archer, Hunter Biden’s business partner, is appointed to the board of Burisma. Devon Archer is also business partners with Christopher Heinz, the stepson of then-Secretary of State John Kerry. Two weeks later, $23 million, controlled by Mykola Zlochevsky, is frozen by Britain’s Serious Fraud Bureau. On May 12, 2014, Hunter Biden is named to the board of Burisma and is paid a salary between $600,000 and $1 million per year. The Washington Post reacted to this appointment by saying, “The appointment of the Vice President’s son to a Ukrainian oil board looks nepotistic at best, nefarious at worst.”
Hunter Biden was being interviewed by ABC News in October 2019, and he was asked, “If your last name wasn’t Biden, do you think you would have been asked to be on the Board of Burisma?” His reply was, “I don’t know, I don’t know, probably not.” Considering that Hunter Biden has no oil and gas knowledge or expertise, and had nothing to do with Ukraine prior to his appointment, it’s a safe bet that he would not have been appointed to the board.
In December 2015, The New York Times publishes an article saying that Victor Shokin, Ukraine’s Prosecutor General, is investigating Burisma and Zlochevsky. In February 2016, Zlochevsky’s home is raided. Between February 11 and 19, there is a series of phone calls between Vice President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. On February 24, an American lobbyist for Burisma gets a high-level State Department meeting by using Hunter Biden’s name. On March 2, Devon Archer meets with John Kerry.
On March 15, 2016, Victoria Nuland, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, demands the replacement of Victor Shokin. On March 22, Joe Biden threatens to withhold $1 billion in US loan guarantees unless Shokin is fired. On March 29, Shokin is fired. On March 31, Biden releases the money.
On January 23, 2018, Joe Biden is speaking at the Council on Foreign Relations and bragged about getting Shokin fired. “…I went over, I guess, the 12th or 13th time to Kiev [Ukraine],” Biden said. “And I was supposed to announce that there was another billion-dollar loan guarantee. And I had gotten a commitment from Poroshenko and from Yatsenyuk that they would take action against the state prosecutor [Shokin]. And they didn’t. So they said they had – they were walking out to a press conference. I said, nah, I’m not going to – or, we’re not going to give you the billion dollars. They said, you have no authority. You’re not the president. The president said – I said, call him. [Crowd Laughter] I said, I’m telling you, you’re not getting the billion dollars. I said, you’re not getting the billion. I’m going to be leaving here in, I think it was about six hours. I looked at them and said: I’m leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you’re not getting the money. Well, son of a [expletive]. [Laughter] He got fired. And they put in place someone who was solid at the time.” That is, by definition, a quid pro quo.
This is the series of events that Democrats are saying is “debunked,” without investigation. Republicans saying they want to have Hunter Biden testify draws cries of a cover-up from their Democratic colleagues. This is patently insane, because if this deserves an investigation, regardless of the outcome, Trump was perfectly within his rights to tell the new Ukrainian president that he wanted one.
Democrats are saying that even asking for an investigation into this seemingly corrupt series of events is an “abuse of power.” Not going along with a partisan investigation is “obstruction of Congress.” The fact is, Democrats are abusing their constitutionally given impeachment powers to a far greater degree than anything Trump is accused of doing. They are obstructing Congress from accomplishing meaningful legislation for the American people. They are covering up corruption and attempting to overturn a prior election while simultaneously interfering in the upcoming one. In short, they are everything they think Trump is, but worse. This is why nobody should take what they say, or this entire charade, seriously. It doesn’t matter.

Why Wait Until November? 2020 Elections Start Now!

Originally published January 22, 2020

Everyone already knows that the 2020 elections are coming up. The House, the Senate, and the Oval Office are up for grabs, but American Jews don’t have to wait until November to make their voices heard. The World Zionist Congress will be meeting later in 2020, and 152 delegates will represent American Jewry. How those delegates decide to spend nearly $1 billion for Jewish causes depends on how American Jews vote between now and March 11.
The World Zionist Congress (WZC) first convened in 1897, under the leadership of Theodor Herzl, to gather world Jewry together for the goal of creating a Jewish State. And 123 years later, while the goals have changed, the importance of the Congress has not. There is over a billion dollars in funding that is allocated by the World Zionist Congress, which is directed towards the operating costs of the World Zionist Organization (WZO), The Jewish National Fund (JNF), and the Jewish Agency for Israel.
These organizations have been, and will continue to be, vital towards the building of the State of Israel. These organizations buy land, develop towns, conserve forests and reservoirs, and fund trips for Jews around the world to come to Israel. Their funding, and how they use those funds, will be in jeopardy should left-wing slates gain control of the World Zionist Congress.
There are 14 slates in this year’s elections, up from 11 in 2015. These slates are essentially political parties, each with its own policies and ideologies. Much like the Israeli Knesset, many of these parties have similar policy priorities, but disagree on certain issues. Unlike the American two-party system, a small difference could mean a whole new party that is part of a coalition.
The slates that American Jews are voting for are not simply left versus right politically, but religiously as well. So while two slates may be considered on the political right, they may have opposing religious views, and vice versa. That being said, with 14 slates to choose from, it is difficult to have a comprehensive view on all of them. Every voter who is looking to be fully informed should take the time to read up on the various slates, their policy proposals, and the organizations with which they affiliate. However, there are a few that deserve to be highlighted.
The Association of Reform Zionists of America, or ARZA, “is the Zionist arm and voice of the Reform Movement and an affiliate of the Union for Reform Judaism, serving 1.5 million Reform Jews in North America,” as per their website. After the 2015 election, they won 56 of 145 seats in the American delegation, double the next highest slate.
ARZA pushes Reform Judaism’s religious ideology, such as an “egalitarian” space at the Kosel, and non-Orthodox standards for religious services like conversions and weddings. They believe in a two-state solution as “essential for the security and stability of both Israelis and Palestinians. Most of their affiliations are Reform and Reconstructionist organizations.
Mercaz USA
Mercaz is Conservative Judaism’s slate, and they won 25 seats in the 2015 election. According to their website, their mission “is to support religious pluralism in Israel and strengthen the connection between Israel and the Diaspora. We are the advocates and the force that guarantees funding for religious streams that is so crucial to our Movement’s growth in Israel and around the world.” Like the Reform Slate, their movement is more focused on the religious life within Israel and how to reflect conservative religious ideology within the rabbinate of the State. Mercaz is affiliated with religious Conservative organizations.
The Orthodox Israel Coalition
The Orthodox Israel Coalition (OIC) is “a broad-based coalition of the major Religious Zionist and Modern Orthodox organizations that has represented Orthodox Jewry in the World Zionist Congress for over 100 years. Dedicated to the timeless values of the Torah and the centrality of the Land and the State of Israel in Jewish life, we serve as the only Orthodox coalition with operations and programs in Israel and throughout the world.” In 2015, the Religious Zionist slate won 24 seats in the delegation. Among the affiliated organizations are the Orthodox Union, AMIT, Yeshiva University, Touro College, Rabbinical Council of America, National Council of Young Israel, Torah MiTzion, Bnei Akiva, and more.
Hatikvah is a left-wing political slate that refers to Israel’s existence in Judea and Samaria as “occupation” and claims to “fiercely oppose the current policy of permanent occupation and annexation. It is unjust and will end Israel’s democracy. The occupation is sustained by ongoing policies of repression that only serve to exacerbate conflict and require daily violence to maintain it.” They are affiliated with left-wing organizations such as J Street, T’ruah, Americans for Peace Now, and others. They had eight delegates in the 2015 Congress
Zionist Organization of America
The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) is a politically right-wing slate that emphasizes security, building up Judea and Samaria, and consistently fights against the left-wing’s “Israel is racist” agenda. They fight against BDS on college campuses as well as in legislatures. They are affiliated with Dov Hikind’s group, Americans Against Anti-Semitism, and had seven delegates in the 2015 Congress.
These are only a few of the 14 slates that American Jews will vote on over the coming weeks, and they will decide how millions of dollars will be allocated based on the turnout. The 2015 election had approximately 60,000 votes, but the American Jewish population tops five million. If any movement consolidates its voting base, they can have outsized representation in the World Zionist Congress.
All voters need to fulfill the following criteria: Be 18 years of age or above (as of June 30, 2020), be a permanent resident of the United States, be Jewish, have not voted and will not vote in the March 2, 2020 Knesset election, and affirm your commitment to the Jerusalem Program. The Jerusalem Program is the official platform of the WZO and commits to a historic bond between the Jewish people and the Land of Israel, with Jerusalem as its capital. When voting, there is a $7.50 fee to cover expenses.
For every Jew in the United States who wonders what he or she can do to affect change in the State of Israel, this is the time to act. Vote; get your friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers to vote. The direction of Israeli, American, and Worldwide Jewry is at stake.
