This past week, former Speaker of the House John Boehner made some headlines by claiming “[t]here’s no Republican Party. There’s a Trump party. The Republican Party is kind of taking a nap somewhere.”
There is no more surefire way to get a few days’ worth of headlines as a Republican than by bashing Trump. One has to wonder how accurate former Speaker Boehner’s words are. Is the Republican Party so far gone that they won’t hold to their own ideals? House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) explains it incredibly well in this clip from CNN’s “State of the Union”:

BASH: Let’s move on to what your former colleague, the former Speaker of the House John Boehner, said this week. Take a listen.
[Bash then played a clip in which Boehner states: “There’s no Republican Party. There’s a Trump party. The Republican Party is kind of taking a nap somewhere.”]
BASH: You worked very closely with John Boehner – you were his number two in the House, and there’s no doubt that the Republican Party has changed over the years. Do you think it’s changed for the better?
MCCARTHY: Well, I would think it changed for the better because let’s first look at the facts, Dana. We’re at 3.8% unemployment – this ties a 50-year low in America. African American[s] and women are at the lowest in unemployment. Unemployment claims are at a 44-year low. The GI Bill is now no longer 15 years or you lose it. It’s now for a lifetime.
Human trafficking – the modern day slavery – we actually eliminated that process when it comes to online, where 70% of that is being used.
Look what we’re doing in two weeks here. 70 different bills when it comes to opioid; rebuilding the military. And then one thing we’ve never even talked about [in] this discussion – come June 12, North Korea is sitting down talking about dismantling their nuclear weapons.
So, you know what? I’m proud of this Republican Party. I’m proud of what we’ve been able to achieve. Two million more jobs in America. Yes, we are working hard, exactly what we said we would do. That is a proud Republican Party; that is a Party that stands on their principles. That is part of what we ran on; that is part of what we said we would do. And you know what? We’re accomplishing it.
In addition to those accomplishments, the Republican Congress managed to pass a massive Tax Cut, repeal the Individual Mandate for Obamacare, dramatically loosen FDA regulations for the terminally ill through Right to Try, and is expanding the military, which was decimated by the Obama era. Speaker Boehner may have his own opinion on what makes a Republican, but fewer taxes, reduced regulation, and a stronger military seems to check the Republican boxes.
These are incredible achievements. However, these achievements would have been impossible if the Republicans did not hold both Congress and the Presidency. Zero Democrats voted for the tax cuts. Only 22 Democrats voted for the Right to Try Act, and a whopping 169 voted against it.
Democrats held up the federal budget for months, causing a shutdown in an effort to force through a clean amnesty for illegal immigrants. Democrat priorities do not lie with the constituents who voted them into office, but with the votes they are attempting to import. The only reason Democrats need to import votes is because the voters who elected them realize that the Democrats’ main focus is to obstruct Republicans, rather than work with them.
The Republican Party is alive, well, and thriving. However, Congress is up for grabs this November. In order to keep this economy strong and our nation secure, we need to maintain control of Congress in 2018. On November 6th, vote for Ameer Benno to flip the New York’s Fourth Congressional District back to the party that accomplishes real growth for our country.
