Democrat Extremists Become Democrat Centrists
By Moshe Hill
As the 2020 Democratic primary field gets more crowded, those who have entered the race, and others, have embraced the most leftwing positions of the Democratic Party. Republicans, for years, have been making the case that prominent Democrat presidents of the past, like JFK and Bill Clinton, wouldn’t have a place in today’s Democratic Party. With the direction the party is going, conservatives may soon add Barack Obama to that list.
In a CNN Town Hall, Senator Kamala Harris was asked a question about health care. Harris not only pushed Medicare for All, a government-run program that would cost $38 trillion over ten years, but also said to eliminate private insurance. This would effectively remove health insurance plans from 56 percent of all Americans and replace it with a government program. (Harris has since backed off this position, due to pressure, but it is still held by Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.) If the private insurance industry is eliminated, besides the half a million employees who would be laid off or the trillions of dollars spent, a two-tier system would be created. That system would have the health care for the uber-rich (who, despite media coverage to the contrary, are mostly Democrats) and the rest of us, who will not be able to get adequate healthcare coverage.
In the same Town Hall, Kamala Harris also endorsed the Green New Deal, a plan that would effectively eliminate all cars and bankrupt the country. The Green New Deal calls for all energy consumption in the United States to come from renewable energy, like wind and solar, by the year 2030. Even hydroelectric energy isn’t good enough for the radicals who are pushing this Deal because it disturbs the ecosystem. Wind and Solar energy currently account for less than 4 percent of all US energy consumption, and costs much more. Nuclear energy, which is far better for the environment than coal or gas, isn’t even on the table. This plan would eliminate engines from cars and would cause home energy costs to skyrocket. The most affected by the plan will not be the very wealthy (who can afford it) or the very poor in the cities (who already live off government subsidies and do not use private transportation), but rather the suburbanites who need to heat their homes and drive to work or the grocery store.
Between Medicare for All and the Green New Deal, the federal government would be spending approximately $45 trillion over ten years. The entire federal government has spent around $40 trillion from 2008-2018, with a deficit every year. This means that Democrats will have to double the tax revenue, which means raising taxes. Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez calls for a 70% tax rate on every dollar earned over $10 million. Presidential candidate and Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren went even further and proposed a Wealth Tax, which would confiscate money already saved. They forget that millionaires can afford excellent accountants and attorneys to help hide their money. When the revenues don’t rise fast enough, and the debt keeps piling up because of their plans, the only place they can get more money is to raise the tax rates on the middle class.
The Democrats’ extremism is becoming more mainstreamed in state legislatures all around the country. A bill just passed the Colorado State Senate that nullifies the Electoral College, and thus nullifying a Coloradan’s need to vote in presidential elections. The bill, which was voted on party lines and passed by Democrats, states that the winner of the popular vote in the United States and the District of Columbia will receive the 9 Electoral College votes from Colorado. Colorado has a population of 5.6 million people, which now are beholden to the votes in the highly populated Democratic cities like New York (pop. 8 million), Los Angeles (pop. 4 million) and Chicago (2.7 million).
The Virginia State Legislature is pushing a bill that would allow for abortion for any health reason, including mental health, until the actual point of birth. Delegate Todd Gilbert (Republican) was questioning bill sponsor Delegate Kathy Tran (Democrat) about the limitations in her bill. He asked, “Where it’s obvious a woman is about to give birth, that she has physical signs that she is about to give birth, would that still be a point at which she could request an abortion if she was so certified. She’s dilating.” Bill sponsor Delegate Kathy Tran replied (after saying that this is a decision between the physician and the woman), “My bill would allow that, yes.” Gone are the days of “safe, legal, and rare” abortions as touted by then First Lady Hillary Clinton; we are firmly entrenched in the “Shout Your Abortion” era, where abortion is a sacrament. This is not a conception question or a heartbeat question. This bill allows for infanticide.
Virginia Democratic Governor Ralph Northam would not be outdone. When supporting the bill during a radio interview, Northam, when discussing babies with severe deformities or non-viability, said, “The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired. And then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.” So now the standard isn’t pre-birth, it’s post-birth, as well. It’s not just non-viable babies, but with severe deformities. But what is the definition of severe deformities? Who gets to define that? If Democrats are pushing the mental health of the mother above the physical well-being of the child, as they have been doing with all of their abortion laws, then the definitions could be incredibly broad. As Frank Stephens said when he testified before Congress in 2017, “I am a man with Down syndrome, and my life is worth living.” Saying that a deformity on a born, living baby is a reason to kill that baby is nothing short of pure evil.
If this was not enough evidence of the incredible shift in the Democratic Party (as opposed to these being fringe positions), consider the Democrats’ choice for the rebuttal of President Trump’s State of the Union address. Senate Minority Leader and Democratic Senator from New York Chuck Schumer has tasked failed Georgian Gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams for the job. Stacey Abrams gave a non-concession speech when she lost the Governor’s race, saying the race was stolen (it wasn’t) and “Democracy failed in Georgia” (it didn’t). Abrams wants abortion to be unrestricted and Obamacare to pay for it. She is against school choice and tax credits for private schools. She wants Medicare for All expansion. She was an extremist who is now a centrist.
The Democratic Party is becoming more and more unrecognizable. JFK pushed for and passed tax cuts. “A tax cut means higher family income and higher business profits,” he said in a 1963 address to the nation. JFK’s Supreme Court nominee, Justice Byron White, a Democrat, was one of the two dissenting Justices in Roe V. Wade. Bill Clinton, like Hillary, pushed for “safe, legal, and rare” abortions. Barack Obama, at the very least, had to flip on his position about single payer healthcare when he pushed Obamacare, saying, “If you like your doctor you can keep your doctor” – but even that lie is taken off the table. Now, the lunatics have taken over the asylum, and there are no Democratic centrists to be found.
