BY MOSHE HILL OPINION COLUMNS AUGUST 14 2024
A month into the Kamala Harris campaign she has still conducted zero interviews and has not put up a policy page on her website. Instead, she has done very well-choreographed campaign rallies in swing states, boosting her popularity and polling numbers to the point where she is now favored to win the presidential election. She is winning right now not because she is campaigning against the policy prescription of Donald Trump, but rather because she’s campaigning against her own personal policies that she espoused and those set forward by the administration she was a part of.
It’s incredibly common during an election cycle for candidates to appeal to the extremes of their party to win the primary then run back to the middle to try and win the general. What is not common, however, is for the primary process to be completely thrown away and a candidate be crowned as the nominee without a vote. We live in unprecedented times, however, where coronations occur and political enemies are targeted by the Department of Justice.
We also live in a time where the current administration is seen as a massive failure. Biden has not been seen or heard from since he dropped out of the race, and he’s still riding a 40% approval rating. This is after the media gave him glowing editorials on how wonderful he is to “pass the torch” (aka forcibly removed under threat of Harris invoking the 25th amendment). That’s because his administration is best known for massive inflation (the highest in 40 years), massive illegal border crossings (the highest ever), and multiple wars around the world.
Harris is not only a part of that administration; she has claimed that she was an essential decision maker in that administration. She claimed that she was “the last person in the room” determining the botched Afghanistan pullout. She was put in charge of the border. She cast the deciding vote in the Senate that increased the inflationary cycle. She brags about her foreign policy with world leaders, repeating the toothless and pathetic warning to American adversaries: “don’t.” (Hint: they always do, and Biden-Harris does nothing.)
Harris is now performing the same speech in swing states, actively running away from her and Biden’s record. She is simultaneously claiming that Biden has been a great president and running as if she’s the “change” candidate. She’s saying she’s going to lower costs and strengthen the economy as if she wasn’t saying for years that “Bidenomics is working.” She is running on strengthening the border as if she wasn’t put in charge of that policy and as if she didn’t compare ICE to the KKK and proclaim, “We’re not going to treat people who are undocumented who cross the border as criminals.”
Kamala Harris has not done an interview or really answered tough questions at all, but she is sending campaign surrogates to flip-flop on every issue she supported when she ran for President in 2019. (She dropped out before the calendar hit 2020 – that’s how unpopular she was when she ran.) She said she would ban fracking; now she’s saying she’s against it. She said she wants to get rid of private health insurance; now she’s saying she’s against it. She cheered defunding the police when Los Angeles did it; now she’s saying she’s against it. She once vowed to nuke the Senate filibuster to pass the Green New Deal; now she’s saying she’s against it. She skipped Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to Congress and said she’s “open” to an arms embargo of Israel while simultaneously claiming she stands with Israel.
Then there’s Tim Walz, who is as bad a liar as we’ve seen on the political stage. Walz spent years promoting his military history, only for it to be completely exposed as stolen valor the second he gained any national prominence. Walz is pretending to be a midwestern moderate when he’s pushed a radically leftist agenda in Minnesota to the point where his re-election was far closer than his first election.
He is campaigning on being a “coach” who brought his team to a state championship when in reality he was an unpaid assistant coach. The only time he was a head coach was for a short period for a freshman team until he was forced to resign because of a DUI. The Harris campaign is passing out signs at rallies that say “coach” and the New York Timesis writing op-eds about how he’s a “clear eyes, full hearts” kind of coach.
The most galling of Walz’s campaign pledges is the constant refrain that people should “mind your own business” on issues such as abortion and putting feminine hygiene products in the boy’s room of high schools. This is the same man who set up a hotline during Covid so people could snitch on their neighbors.
Kamala Harris and her running mate aren’t just lying about themselves and their policies, they are actively stealing campaign promises from Donald Trump. Harris pledged at her campaign on Saturday that there would be “no tax on tips” for service workers, a Trump campaign pledge since at least June. Meanwhile, the Biden IRS implemented a new policy for tracking tips so they can tax them. This also violates the Biden pledge, which Harris claims to want to continue (via surrogate of course) that they would not raise taxes on anyone making less than $400,000. Oh, and that has already been proven to be a lie, as Kamala has endorsed a tax plan that raises the taxes on anyone making over $100,000.
The sheer number of lies and flip-flops and ability to switch positions on a dime has the New York Post dubbing Harris a “Kameleon,” which is an apt nickname. She has no principles or policy, she has no ability to lead or advocate; she’s a media and political creation. Should she be victorious, it will only demonstrate the media’s continuing ability to shove an empty suit in front of the American people and make them the most powerful person in the world.
